Septembers Member Of The Month is: Hannah Clay

Hannah joined Saxon CrossFit early this year chasing a more challenging fitness regime to compliment her many sporting activities. Hannah came to CrossFit with a fantastic attitude towards fitness and a great desire to improve. Through regularly attending classes and pushing her boundaries Hannah has become a well rounded athlete with her strength now matching her engine! (One of the most notable improvements is her squat position and mechanics which are now awesome!)  Hannah solidified her member of the month award by participating in our recent team competition. Unsure of her own abilities and nervous about competing Hannah jumped in and hit a PB front squat as part of the winning team!

A joy to coach and a great member of our little community Hannah will continue to progress in every aspect of her fitness and no doubt hit a few more PB’s soon! (We’ll get that pull up soon buddy!)

We asked Hannah to share her experiences of Saxon CrossFit so far:

What brought you to Saxon CrossFit?

I was stuck in a boring routine at a gym that was getting overcrowded and where you seemed to have to be paying more and more to get support in achieving your goals.

Someone recommended CrossFit and though sounding scary, it also sounded like just the challenge I needed.  Whilst I live a lot closer to two other boxes, I was recommended Saxon for the friendly, professional coaching and small, personal community.

What do you think is your biggest achievement since you’ve started at Saxon CrossFit?

I am actually really pleased with the last month too! At the beginning of the month I had a whinge to Coach Jess that I had lost my strength and fitness after a few weeks out with a minor injury.  My motivation had disappeared and I was finding every session really frustrating.  I spent August trying to find it again and it seems to have done the job! Not so much an achievement, but baby steps…

What is your favourite/least favourite movement?

Whilst it’s not a movement, my least favourite thing is the warm-up.  Period.  Every single time it fills me with dread that I can, both be so worn out before the session has even started, and also at what is to come!

My favourite movement is squats, all day every day.  No, that’s not a challenge, Tim!

What do you like most about Saxon CrossFit?

There’s too much to choose from – a fab bunch of people to support and inspire you, the ability to track your progress and constantly challenge yourself, the opportunity to learn new skills, often outside of your comfort zone, two passionate coaches with huge attention to detail and a genuine interest in their members’ development.

Ultimately though, I like turning up, no matter what has happened during the day, leaving it all at the door and knowing that you are going to get your ass kicked and have an awesome workout!

What are your short/long term training goals?

In the short term I would like to consistently attend Saxon three to four times a week which sounds simple enough! In the long term, I would like to master some of the gymnastics skills which are so outside of my comfort zone and, like every woman at the Box, a strict pull up!

Tell us something about yourself that the other members do not know?

I love making cakes which is a bit at odds with the Saxon way! I have therefore become a bit of a feeder to my friends and family (which they don’t mind).
